10 Ways to Promote Yourself and Your Music

Someone has to do the leg-work and promote your songs. If not, your songs will remain on your desk or stored in a file cabinet.Getting someone to take notice of your music is hard work and not all musicians enjoy promoting themselves and their music.Walking into a music studio and asking to see the boss in order to submit your songs is not an effective way to get your songs marketed in today's music environment. Leaving your demo with the receptionist usually means that it will be "deep-sixed" within hours or minutes!Unless you know someone who is active in the music industry, it is next to impossible for you to have someone listen to your songs. Here are ten approaches to getting your music out to the public.Remember to always identify yourself as the creative director and not as songwriter.1. Locate a band that plays your style of music. Befriend them and then give them a demo CD or video of your songs. If they should decide to play them at the venues, this will gain exposure for you and your music. They may even be willing to record them for you in a studio of live. I suggest that you make a demo of one or two of your "hottest" songs on a CD and place your very best song on Track one. Make sure that the introductions are short (no longer than four measures) and get the chorus or them quickly. Remember that up-tempo songs get marketed quicker than ballads, and Seasonal songs (Christmas) are almost impossible to promote without a prior track record of hits.2. Referrals from a friend or acquaintance in the business really opens doors. Always get permission to use their name before verbally dropping it to others, or including it in a correspondence. " suggested that I contact you." or "Your name was given to me by ___________" A name of a prominent mutual friend will probably get you past the receptionist. Contacting them by phone or email is a good way to ask if you can submit a song for their consideration. If the answer is "yes," make sure you send a professional-looking package the very next day and mark it "Requested Material."3. Make sure that your demo is "hot." If you're not a great singer, hire someone who is. Pay them to sing the song. Most demos can sound professional with a vocalist, keyboardist, and bassist. Most producers have to hear a near finished product to appreciated what the song really sounds like. Make sure you mention a particular artist or band that your songs are most suited for. This will greatly assist the producer to "hear" the song in light of a particular group. If you are sending a vocal that fits a particular female vocalist, don't record it using a male vocalist and vice versa.4. Use an established music attorney who can guide you through copyrights, contracts, and so on. Make sure that they handles your type of music. Their professional contacts in the music industry are most valuable. Don't waste time sitting in their office until you are offered a deal (contract). Remember time is money!5. Cold calls can be difficult. These should be avoided, but occasionally it is necessary to contact an industry person who you don't know. It is best to contact him or her ahead of time and ask permission to send a demo of your songs. Include in the package a cover letter on your company letterhead stationery. State what you expect them to do for you. You should include a high-gloss business card listing you as creative director, a short bio, CD or DVD demo of your songs, lyric sheet, and a two-sentence summary of your company and recent successes. Make sure to include your name, address, phone number, email address, and web site address on all items submitted.6. Attend music industry conventions and meet people in the business. The following organizations hold such meetings: ASCAP, BMI, SESAC, and NARAS, NAMM. Awards events, industry parties, showcases, and fundraisers are good places to meet people in the industry. I suggest that you do not try to market your songs at these gatherings. Get the names of influential people and ask them if you can send them your material. If "yes" make sure to send them the "requested material" within two days.7. After submitting the CD to a producer, it is wise to follow up with a phone call or email within a two-week period. Call to ensure that your package was received and if there has been any reaction to the material.8. Obtaining a foothold in this business takes perseverance, persistence and patience. You must be assertive (focused) but not aggressive (annoying). You must project an air of confidence in your ability and in the quality of your songs. Avoid pretense and be yourself.9. Here are a few calling tips:
Never call the day after a 3-day weekend.
Never call early in the morning.
Never call anyone on Friday afternoon or evening.
Never call anyone between Christmas and New Year's or prior to a vacation such as July 4th, or Thanksgiving.10. Online Marketing is a great avenue to explore.Today, there are many musicians who are selling their songs and CDs online rather than going through the traditional channels of music publishers and record companies. It is relatively easy to create an immediate "buzz" and market your own songs online. Videos of your songs or group can be posted on You Tube, Google Video, and so many more sites. You can connect your music to organizations that promote "ringtones."You can promote, sell and distribute your music through the following networks: iTunes, Amazon.com, Pandora Radio, CD Baby, Facebook, You Tube.com, Last.fm, Twitter, Rovi/The All Music Guide, Live365.com, SHOUTcast.com, and MySpace.com.It is important to contribute informative articles in your area of expertise through press releases (music news), emails, newsletters, online surveys, and ezines. In fact, my article "Arranging Music and Sheet Music" was accepted as an EZine article and I earned "Expert Author status" and the article appears on their high-traffic home page.My final advice for you is to explore every possible avenue to get your music out in the marketplace. If you are a member of a band, appoint one person to handle the marketing of your group and don't leave one stone unturned in your quest to have others enjoy your music.Every musician should own, study and absorb the excellent material contained in the book, How to Promote Your Music Successfully on the Internet 2011 by David Nevue. This can be downloaded as a PDF file and purchased at http://www.musicbizacademy.com/bookstore.With perseverance, adequate research, and a "never quit" attitude, you can produce great music and be a success by making a living at music. Beethoven said; "Patience, diligence, persistence, and sincerity will lead to success" (Vienna 1792).

Add Audio to Your Web Site and Increase Your Sales up to 35%!

Ok, you've got your site built, you have traffic coming to it, a
good product at a reasonable price.... hmmm... what else do you
need? What else could increase your conversion rate?Audio! All right I know what you're thinking... "Why should I go to all
of the trouble of adding audio to my web site?"Because it can increase your sales by up to 35%!! That's why.Adding streaming audio it isn't as hard as you have been led to
believe and you don't even have to pay a monthly fee either. You
can start with sound recorder (Pre-installed on every Windows
computer) and the free microphone that came with your computer. Some of the things you can do with audio to enhance your site
are:* Create audio greetings* Create audio testimonials* Narrate tutorials* Create audio ezines* Add audio files for your visitors to download* Create audio articles* Add your band's music clips as tempting teasers to get buyers* Read children's stories* Tell Jokes* Sing...* Add music as a background to your web site (Tastefully - please!)This list goes on and on.Let's quickly cover a couple of the items on the list and see
what the advantages are.Create Audio Greetings:Well, I think this one is fun. Don't you often wonder what that
"Guru" sounds like? Or even what a web master who has created
your favorite web tool or ebook?Adding an audio greeting is actually about the easiest thing to
do if you want to improve your sales. For most web sites, when
done tastefully, the sales can jump up to 35%! People just trust
you more and feel like they know you a little better if they hear
your voice. Also, excitement is contagious. If you are excited about your
product, ezine or membership site you can hear it in your voice
when you talk about it. SO CAN YOUR CUSTOMERS! And more
importantly, your potential customers.Audio Testimonials:What can I say about this compelling reason, but this... what
would be more believable to you - a web site with a bunch of
written testimonials or a web site where you can hear the actual
voices of current / previous purchasers explaining what benefits
they got from the product? How do you even know for sure the
written testimonials are real? It's hands down the one with the audio. All you need is Audacity (Which is free at http://audacity.com)
to edit down too long testimonials - actually, is there such a
thing as too-long testimonial? Maybe not - and the ability to
have customers send you .wav files and a small picture of
themselves.NOTE: You can get a free script from Will Bontrager at
http://willmaster.com that will allow you to accept files from
your customers OR you can set up a seperate ftp account at
your server for customer uploads. See other articles in this
series to learn how to implement this.Piece of cake! There are a couple of other steps to adding the audio to your
site, but I will get to that in other parts of this article
series.Create Audio Ezines:Have you ever heard Jim Edwards "I Gotta Tell You" ezine?
(http://igottatellyou.com) Or watched the multi-media ebook and
ezine how-to tutorials in Epublishing Express?
([http://epublishing-express.com])It is so much more compelling to hear someone explain exactly
what to do than read a dry ezine (No offense to all the other
thousands of ezine writers out there) or ebook (Ditto to you
ebook writers) and you learn much faster.Did you know that you only retain about 10-15% of what you read
once? But that retention goes up to 60% if you hear it at the
same time and flies up to 80% for a multi-media presentation. How many fewer customer service calls and emails would you get if
you customers were retaining 80% of what you were teaching them?
I can tell you... a lot!Think of all the extra time you would have to promote your
business, create new products (Audio and multimedia products of
course!) Heck, even spend more time with your family and hobbies. How much happier would your customers be if they were able to
duplicate your success and complete your tutorials, assignments,
or follow your direction?Again - a lot! How many more of your customers would buy other
products from you if you were successful in teaching them or
helping them with your first product? I think you can see where I
am going with this...So, know that you know how important audio is how do you get
started? The first thing you can do is go to
[http://easy-web-site-audio.com] and sign up for the free Audio
Tips Ecourse and get a new tip every three days on creative audio
uses. That's a good start :)Remember those audio testimonials? Here are some other free resources for all of you ebook and ezine
writers to get you started: (Some long links may wrap)Microsoft: http://microsoft.com (Free)Additionally you can access lots of free content add-ons, tools,

CD Burner: The Day The Music Burns

Before, owning a copy of your favorite artist would only mean buying either from a local music store or online music sites. And a copy with an average of 16-18 cuts would cost you at least $10. If you think this is reasonable, then consider yourself lucky. However, if you are one of those who cannot afford buying copies of their favorite artists and still would want to listen to them, all you can do is to wait until your local radio stations play their songs. If you have the computer and the Internet connection, you can go to online music sites with free radio like the Launchcast, Shoutcast, Live365, and MSN radio and hope that the song will be played.Today, with several music download shareware programs it is possible to get your favorite song directly from other users without actually buying from them. These programs let you store the songs you have downloaded to your hard drive or transfer it to your portable MP3 player. But for you who would like to keep a complete collection of the song by actually storing it to a disc for archiving or play it to your vehicle of home entertainment system, there is one piece of computer peripheral you need: CD burner. If you know how CD player looks like (and I'm sure you do), you would recognize the CD burner.CD burner comes into two forms: the "independent" and the "attached". The independent CD burners or writable CD drives do not necessarily have to be permanently attached on the CPU. It could be connected through a USB port with its own power source. The other type of CD burner is the one that is attached to the CPU just like the CD ROM we know for quite some time.Remember the times cassette players were only meant to play cassette tapes? Then came the cassette recorders that enabled users to copy the content of cassette tapes to a black one.The same concept applies with the CD burner. It could copy from one CD to another or from a hard drive to a black CD and vice versa. But to actually use your CD burner, you have to have software. Some of these softwares are available and downloadable for free online. Examples are ISO Recorder, DeepBurner, Burrrn, Windows Media Player, Xduplicator, Cheetah CD Burner, and more. Other CD burner softwares could be purchased. While those for free have the same burning capability, those that are sold give more features and flexibility.CD burners are not limited to audio copying. It also can copy document files, programs, games, videos, MP3, WMA, and WAV files. Not only that, CD burner with DVD burning capability enables you to copy you favorite DVD collection to another CD if in case you would want to share it to a friend or keep it in case your original DVD is lost. You can also burn a DVD movie after you downloaded it through the Internet so that you could watch it on you television or your home theater.Although many would argue that the release of the CD burner provides venue to produce uncopywrited CD's whether audio or video, there is no question that CD burner brings the production technology within the reach of the consumers. And soon, as technology still progresses, there would be technology more advanced to cater the needs of music and video collectors and enthusiasts.

Steal This Blog

The large majority of the Tomato readers are Realtors. It is my mission to help this audience better understand how to embrace the tools that are going to keep them successful. The Tomato itself is an example of embracing a new tool (the blog) only to in turn illustrate how to leverage it yourself.Effective blogging will make you breakaway from your online competition. That is why I implore you to continue to pay attention to this site. Lofty goals for the Tomato inspire daily content and strategy focus. Learn as I we grow; come along for the ride. The Internet is shifting to what is being referred to as Web 2.0. Descriptive titles such as "collective collaboration," "participant architecture," "peer production," and "crowd sourcing" have been used to describe the core value of this shift. Blogs, MySpace, Wikis, Flickr, eBay, YouTube, Craigslist, Shoutcast, Forums and Mozilla are among the many pioneers that make up the driving force of the shift to 2.0.Catching the wave before it's passed is certain to improve your success online. Right now you have the ability to be part of a movement that will soon become mainstream. The best thing about this swift transition to Web 2.0 is the opportunity of participation. By using the tools of 2.0 to educate your audience on the market as well as your commitment, passion, and expertise in real estate you will begin to leave those who don't in the dust.We are already seeing the success generated by embracing the tools of 2.0. Realtors that have been blogging on their sites over the last year are enjoying the immediate search engine benefits. Once a blog post is published to a website, its content is immediately sent to many blogging and conventional search engines. Content is desperately important when it comes to establishing a website in the search results most pertinent to your focus. Adding to that content on a regular basis will only solidify those desired results.Beyond the traffic benefits, the real pay back of a well managed real estate blog is the relationships you build with your audience. The development of a lead into a client is built on trust. Trust is gained through communication and education. The real estate blog needs to execute this soundly. Every post regarding the market, a testimonial, challenges overcome, mortgage trends, tips, top 10 lists and so on will educate, engage and entertain your future clients. So as I said in a recent comment here on the Tomato, grab a surfboard and ride this wave before you are left out in open water with the masses of shoulda, coulda, wouldas...

Portable Internet Radio - What Are the Options?

First of all, what is meant by portable internet radio? The definition used here is: internet radio that can be listened to no matter where you are, in your home, car, gym, etc. This can be acquired in a number of ways, depending on your budget. The easiest and least expensive option is to record internet radio broadcasts, to be played back later with an mp3 player. All that's needed is a computer, a microphone and a sound editing program. Assuming you already have a computer, a usb microphone can be purchased for about $10.00 at any Best Buy, Radio Shack etc. This is needed to interface with your editing software. There are any number of sources for free/open-source sound editing programs for mac/pc, just Google "sound editing programs" and choose one you like. Make sure the music files can be saved in a compatible format i.e.mp3,mp4, aiff, aac, for your player.Internet radio broadcasts can be found the same way, or if you have iTunes on your computer, you already have a source. I tend to use a combination of iTunes,Shoutcast.com, Last.fm, and Live365.com.Download the program you chose. Most apps will have a help menu for guidance with the basics of operation. This is the only learning curve, and its' difficulty depends on the app.Plug in your mic, open the program and you're ready to record. Using this particular method means steps should be taken to avoid background noise like the phone, kids, tv, etc. This is due to the fact your music source isn't through a "line-in" connection, and will most certainly be monaural. As mentioned at the outset, this is the cheapest and easiest way to record ANY internet radio broadcast. There are many other approaches to explore, which I'll write about and submit here, or on my blog.

Web Design, The Quest For Inspiration!

The web is filled with incredible works of art. Beautiful graphics, stunning photography, awesome motion, slick animation and sometimes all that put together, to create that one website that leaves everyone breathless. These days web designers are a dime a dozen. Any sane person that can follow a couple of tutorials and invest in some software can create their own website. But as a web designer myself, the difference is very visible between those who's pores leak of creative juices and those who design cause they got nothing better to do. In no way am I degrading those who lack that creative edge, but actually applauding those who do. For many, web design started of as a hobby or branched off other creative arts like making music or painting or even creative thinking. It's awesome that someone can express his or her creative originality through a productive outlet such as Web Design. But like all things, even creativity sometimes runs out and we find ourselves looking at an empty white photoshop document trying to get inspired. Frustration builds up, and that's when we quit designing and open up our favorite first-person shooter and let it loose baby. When does it go from something you love to do, to a chore? I have felt that mental block many times and it's hard to meet deadlines with a quality product when you have no ideas. But don't give up, you are a creative enthusiast so find some creative solutions to get you motivated to work design again. Here are a few things that have worked well for me.
Go to award sites like, coolhomepages.com, cwd.dk or Internet tiny awards. You can view other people's work and gain some ideas. Either the site of the day or the popular site section can provide some needed insight on things.
Go look at your own portfolio, what better way than to admire your own work and be proud of yourself. You are a designer, remember that. It's those creative people that achieve quick success.
Listen to ambient music. No, not elevator music. But electronica, ambient, ambient trance, chillout, soundscapes, atmospheric or even some deep non-vocal trance. Music helps you get into moods and sometimes you can feel your heart beat a little faster as you get motivated and the hair on your arms stands up thinking about design. Even if you only listen to rap or rock, try this out, it's definitely relaxing and mentally stimulating. You can go to Shoutcast Radio or the Radio Station Guide to find some pretty cool radio stations.
Exercise. Get out there, work up a quick sweat and get your heart pumping. This has worked for me many times.
Take a shower. When I am in the shower, a hundred ideas go through my head. You are alone and only hear the sound of water. I have had some million-dollar ideas in there, all too soon to forget as soon as I step out. But think about a potential design and draw it out in your head.
Become a member of some design forums. There are so many out there take your pick; Site-point, Kirupa, Flash-Kit etc... Most of them have an inspiration or a cool site section, which list web sites that people think deserve recognition and therefore motivational. Also go to the site critique section to find some cool ideas and give your thoughts.
Finally, do it because there is a future in it. Imagine yourself being successful with every site you design. Then take steps towards it and make it happen.

The only way to really make it here is to have your own business. You already have that creative skill set that many others lack. Take that and run with it. Don't compare yourself to other designers, there is work for everyone. Get your portfolio site up if you haven't done so already. It doesn't have to be super-duper or better than that other designer's sites, because your clients don't know the difference. There is a market for everyone, remember that. With over a billion sites on the net, and more sites going live everyday you can definitely get clients.Visualize and chase that goal!

Your Own Internet Talk Radio Show

Everybody is talking about the latest trend on the net net video but what about the latest trend for people like me who don't care about video on the web? I would rather tune into a talk radio show so I do not have to use up 100% of my attention and still be able to do other things. I have always preferred talk radio over to listening to just the latest music. I have always thought that someday I would like to have my own radio show. I have heard about people who have rented out AM radio time for their own show and I thought I would have to wait until I had some extra money for this.Introducing internet talk radio where anyone can have their own show at no cost. If you want your own Internet radio show you have three options and each of them is free. There may be other choices that I am not aware of but here are the three that I have checked out myself. The only thing you will need to do with each besides providing your voice is to get listeners for your show. One of the easiest ways is to add a link to your email signature. The first solution is using a software called Shoutcast. This solution is for a live streaming radio station and needs a dedicated server with a large capacity of bandwidth per month. Just one listener would require a bandwidth of 45 gigs per month. The advantage with this option though is you get a radio station that can operate 24 hours a day. The other two options I found only allow you to have either ninety or sixty minute show per day.Globaltalkradio is the second option I found and they have been doing internet radio for several years. Both this option and Blogtalkradio make their money if your show becomes real popular and they can then sell advertising on your show. I know Blogtalkradio will even give you a percentage of this advertising dollar so you will be able to make money on Blogtalkradio. All 3 options allow you to have guests in on the show plus listeners can even call in.Do not worry about the quality of your voice as this will improve over time. With the second 2 options all shows that you do are recorded and a visitor to the site will be able to listen to old shows that you have done. You might want to put a button on your own personal site that allows people, visitor, to listen to your show plus your archived shows. At least with internet radio your demographics for the show are worldwide. You might also consider putting your show on CD and then giving away the CD's.I have seen quite a few people trying to sell courses to get your own radio show but with internet radio this information should be free. The only thing I would consider maybe paying for is publicity for my show.

How to Listen to Internet Radio From Around the World

One of the best qualities of the internet is it's ability to allow you to experience life and culture in countries and cities around the world, and for free.To be able to listen to these online stations, the first thing you want to do is make sure that your computer or laptop is prepared to produce the necessary audio. You'll want to make sure your speakers have their sound turned up to appropriate levels or that you have a headset available. To adjust sound volume levels, there should be a sound icon at the bottom of your monitor screen of a little speaker. If you double-click on that icon, a volume control should appear. Clicking on the volume bar itself, by which you adjust volume up or down, should test out whether it's working correctly or not.Next step you'll want to take is to figure out what type of radio station you want to listen to and from what part of the world you would like to listen to radio stations. One easy to use, popular such website is live365.com. When you visit the website, just type in the type of radio or music you want to listen to and the location such as "New York" and you'll be taken to a page offering different stations. The sound quality is clear and loud, but you'll have to listen first to a brief commercial before you can begin listening to your station of choice. While we're on the subject of choice, however, it's a little limited. I searched for "talk" and news stations originating from Canada and was only offered music stations.Another easy to use website is Pandora.com. Pandora works a good deal differently from Live 365 in that you are first presented with a search box asking you enter in what type of music or artist you want to listen to, and then the site (or program it uses) will "create" a station featuring music that should be by that specific artist or be like the song you ask for. Again, since I'm a news-hound, I entered "news." Every song you can think of with the word "News" in it appeared, along with the group Huey Lewis and the News. No talk seems to be available. Now, after Huey Lewis's song was over, did I get more Huey Lewis and the News? Nope. Don Henley. How the program came to this selection is beyond me.Another online radio station site is shoutcast.com. Don't get me wrong, this is a great and fun site, but when I tried to listen to "talk" stations, I could get "talk," but not news radio or talk radio in other countries. I could get heavy metal or classical from other countries, but not news or talk. So, it's better in my book than Pandora in terms of variety, but still more limited than need be.In conclusion, if you have the time, you should be able to find the type of music, talk, or news from the location you want to hear radio stations from, all from the comfort of your home.

Internet Streaming Media and Radio

As with many things in the world today media is transitioning to the internet. You can now get News Casts, online movies and of course radio on the internet. As the broadband user community grows rapidly so does the use of these online services. The transition is being closely watched by many of the industries biggest players as they reap the benefits of broadband usage. Many smaller and independent broadcasters as well are also getting satisfaction from the change. The majority of internet radio broadcasters are individuals that broadcast from their homes using SHOUTcast, a free broadcasting script developed by NULLSOFT. They are not looking to make a profit but rather share their collection of music via streaming radio and possibly gain some recognition for their efforts.Guidelines have been set up with the agencies that monitor the music industry which makes available licensing to play copyrighted music online to the internet radio community. In this way musicians can receive royalties for their work and internet radio broadcasters remain within the legal boundaries of the industry.Due to the availability of wireless internet connections spreading across the country there has even been mention of including internet radios within the auto industry. There have even been predictions made that internet radio will replace satelite radio within the next 10 years.

Bring Alive the Retro Experience With Internet Radio Networks!

The electronic world of the 21st century offers multiple entertainment options. But nothing evokes the retro feel as much as the radio. There was a time when radios were the only source of entertainment. Nevertheless, it is interesting to note the popularity of radio even today. However, this medium of entertainment has undergone a sea revolution in the present scenario. Internet radio is the latest gift of technology to mankind, catering to a universal range of tastes. It's quite possible that your once favorite local radio station has already started streaming its broadcast signal on the Internet! However, most of us are hardly interested in moving from one website to another to listen to our favorite shows. The pleasure of station surfing is undeniably great. For this, use of internet radio networks or aggregators is advisable. Shoutcast, Live365, and Yahoo LaunchCast are some of the renowned Internet radio networks. A streaming audio player in your laptop or desktop PC is required to receive Internet broadcasts and for the functioning of radio networks. Once the player has been installed, browse through the station guide. The innumerable radio stations will simply leave you spoilt for choice! Celtic music, Anime-inspired games, bluegrass, Hawaiian music, Broadway themes, UK Garage electronica- the options are endless!Radio channels accessible via Internet radio networks are derived from a variety of sources- over-the-air AM, FM and shortwave stations around the world. A number of these stations exist solely for Internet broadcast and are even commercial-free in contrast to the long commercial breaks on over-the-air stations. Besides, network station guides display the name of the current tune being played. You can even search for your favorite artist or music genre to sort out a list of your favorite numbers.Internet radio helps you to relax even at work. This application runs in the background without disrupting your daily load of work. So listen to music or an interesting discussion while going through your emails or when brainstorming with your spreadsheet. Internet radio networks have even made possible customization of your radio experience. Several networks allow members to create their own radio dial and dashboard. Constant innovations are being introduced in this stream, thus making your experience even more eclectic. Internet radio has succeeded in reviving the retro feel, but with a difference!

Blue Muze Biz Buzz - Internet Radio

Internet radio is moving in a new direction that is, in part, a response to the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. Following the DMCA, it was not economically feasible for thousands of internet radio stations to pay blanket fees for use of mainstream music. Therefore, a new market for royalty free independent music is being created. It is still not clear if independent internet radio will rival the power of terrestrial radio and it is also very difficult to measure the success of independent artists who may not be registered through Soundscan. So, what might be the driving force behind this new development? I believe the only way for independent internet radio to succeed is to attract people. Hopefully, as people become aware of a reasonable alternative, it then becomes a matter of taste.I think the timing may be right as we have been bombarded by the same songs mixed with a few new songs (averaging about 17 in rotation) for years now. Traditional music industry resources have diminished and infrastructure has downsized considerably. The downsizing of the traditional music industry can no longer provide enough music to satisfy the listening public.Actually, supply has exceeded demand in the area of music for many years, but the supply is no longer limited to terrestrial radio and the majors. Many believe independent music is taking a small portion of the market share, but again, it is very difficult to measure as many sales go unreported. I believe the only real indicator will be the number of artists who are able to sustain themselves in the very near future. If independent internet radio survives, then we should see growth that is borne out of a return on investment rather than a love for music. It will take a while for the results to come in, but I suspect the Internal Revenue Service will be monitoring this very closely if it starts to show signs of life.Meanwhile, royalty free internet radio does seem to be growing if you look at Live 365 or Shoutcast. In addition, I am able to Google hundreds of standalone stations that are playing independent music (I suspect I could find more if I had the time to dig a little deeper into the search results).I think one element that will make independent internet radio a viable option will be the growth of mobile devices such as Blackberrys, iPhones, iPods, and a whole new generation of cell phones designed to offer the same new features as their competitors. The other element that will provide a boost will be the standardization of input jacks allowing mobile devices to play on car stereo systems. The culture has already changed as young people are listening to music on their mobile devices. It will take a while for this culture to be accepted by older generations, but the signs are very positive as I just saw a granny at Target wearing ear buds. Seriously, this medium has become viable as it is now the medium of choice and will likely become the easiest to support in a growing market.Another positive sign is the explosion of podcasting as an alternative to radio. Podcasts are programs that may be downloaded from the internet that bear many similarities to terrestrial radio with the exception of timing. Podcasts are not in real time, so call-ins must be recorded, for example. However, the only limits to podcasts are the rights to music that is played and the imagination of those folks who are creating the podcasts, called podcasters or casters. The music must be podcast friendly, or offer content (i.e. independent music) that is outside of the scope of the DMCA. Many popular podcasts like those featured at Mad Caster Networks are now featuring indie artists and reviews, which will help to provide indie artists with exposure to a larger number of potential fans. There are some issues that remain for independent internet radio. For example, money remains a problem for many independent stations that are fueled by love for music and a desire to provide an open medium to deserving artists. It is also interesting that the majors are responding with their own internet stations which has a tendency to bury the independents in the search results. Guess what? The internet is the ultimate free market society. That is, a large component of success in gaining the top spots from search engines may be bought with advertising dollars. Yes, it is possible to organically grow a viable site based on good ol' "word of mouth" and search engine optimization (or SEO), but money still talks. This will be one of the obstacles for independent internet radio, along with the possibility of more legislation influenced by music industry lobbies under the guise of protecting music.

Panasonic Plasma 3D TV - A Beginner's Guide to the 2011 VIERA Range

Pioneer plasma TVs used to rule the plasma TV roost before they ceased production a couple of years ago. Panasonic plasma TVs have now moved to the top spot. I have always preferred an image produced by a plasma television as opposed to a television using LCD or LED technology. I can understand why a lot people buy LCD or LED televisions as they produce very sharp, bright and clear images, but I prefer a more natural image produced on a plasma TV.Panasonic has no less than 16 new VIERA plasma TV models in the 2011 line up, with 12 out of the 16 models being 3D capable. All new models arrive between May and August 2011.VIERA models are divided up into 5 series. The VT30 Series is the top of the range, and the X30 Series is the entry point. VT30 Series
GT30 Series
ST30 Series
U30 Series
X30 Series What is so exciting about the new VIERA plasma TVs? New 'SMART' technologies
Improved 2D/3D Performance

Smart VIERA functionalities are based around a variety of connectivity options and are divided into two versions, depending on model. The first is 'VIERA Connect Suite' and the second is 'Easy IPTV'.VIERA Connect Suite vs Easy IPTVWhat is the difference between the two? Basically, Easy IPTV is a scaled-down version of VIERA Connect Suite. The VT30, GT30 and ST30 offer the full VIERA Connect Suite, which allow access to various online media and third-party applications such as catch-up TV, video, music, Internet radio, games and social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter. YouTube, Bloomberg, Picasa, Skype voice and video calling access are also available. The lower-end U30 and X30 models feature Easy IPTV, essentially a scaled-down version of the VIERA Connect Suite. It provides access to Facebook and SHOUTCast Internet radio.Media and interactive applications are accessed via a wired or wireless LAN network. Consumers can record content to USB hard drive or SD Card from their TV via the EPG. SAM Broadcaster Alternatives

SAM Broadcaster has forever been the number 1 player when it comes to broadcasting your own radio show! But at around $279 its not cheap and for many not even close to being worth the money!Spacial Audio who own SAM Broadcaster have tried to come up with various products that can "save us money." But have been nothing short of a complete failure to see the users needs, but lets just look into the products anyway...Simplecast is free and very simple to setup, although you need to find a good 3rd party software you can play your tracks and do your voice overs from...Recently they released Easycast which is a program designed for people who didn't take 10 minuets to read a simple article on how to configure an encoder, and seriously that is about their only unique selling point. Again it works in pretty much the same way simple cast does only all you need to do is login with you info and it will connect you to your server "by the way did i mention you have to buy their servers which cost $99 a month!! That's not cheap" Hey at least the software is free!Ok so i think we have established that spacial audio are going to break your bank but if you can afford it go with SAM Broadcaster but that's not what this article is about right? Lets get serious now!Winamp and the shoutcast DSP plugin "which I'm not going to explain how to setup because there is a million websites telling you how and you all know how to use a search engine right?" ANYWAY! This is a great bit of free software and works as a nice general media player too. I started out my Internet Radio life using winamp and loved it! Its simple to use and all you do is drag and drop your media and away you go! But again this can be clunky if you want to live voiceover your songs! Our next program isn't cheap "sorry" but needs a mention Virtual DJ is a great tool and brilliant if your more of a mixing DJ which lets be honest is almost impossible in SAM Broadcaster! There are so many plugins, effects and controls you can add to this to customise it to your DJ style and it streams to online servers! Ok I agree this will cost you the same amount as SAM Broadcaster does but if you love mixing check out the 20day trial! Now time for some more free stuff and this one is named BUTT (Broadcast Using this Tool) and its totally free and it works on Mac Os and Linux oooooooooooo cross platform! About time! again its much similar to simplecast so you'll have to find yourself a good media player and a way to fade in and out microphones but plenty of software does that today anyway!Im going to leave you with one final bit of software now! Its called Mixxx its like a very strong watered down virtual Dj but its free! It comes with multi channel, Vinyl emulation, Cross-platform (Windows XP and Vista, Mac OS X, Linux) and multiple soundcard support! As far as i am aware it doesn't support internet radio broadcasting but just use a program like BUTT or Simplecast to get it on the air!If you want more advice on which software to use for your budget or want help on starting your own internet radio station. Come down to Internet Radio Forum and we will be happy to help. "Link in source"

How To Create Your Own Internet Radio Show

Creating your own internet radio show is not a hard nut to crack after all, if you just know how to do it. Here is a five step guide which will help you produce your own show. When I first heard music on internet radio, I was thrilled at the possibilities. Gradually, my curiosity for the medium increased. I always thought of creating my own radio program and uploading it on the internet for everyone to enjoy. So I decided to find out what was needed to make my ideas a reality. Some brainstorming sessions with hours of research helped me know how to do it. Armed with my newly earned skills, I created my own radio show and put it online. It was thrilling to enjoy my own radio show with my family and friends. I got dozens of pats on my back! Even today, I fondly remember my endeavor. Here is what I learned from my experience. If you too want to create your own internet radio show, as a hobby or as a business perspective, it could be useful. Go through these steps in an orderly way to podcast your own show.Determine the PurposeBefore you initiate, you must determine the purpose of your show. What would drive you into a real commitment to offer valuable information to your listeners? What are your interests, hobbies, skills, and passions in life that would prompt you to sustain the service? You should sort out this before you begin. Don't start working on an internet radio program on a subject you yourself are not interested in. Go for a subject that arouses real passion in you, no matter how unpopular it seems. There will be people out there looking for the same kind of radio program.Developing A Format and OutlineDecide on a format of your show: will it be a music program, feature or talk show. This will determine your initial expenses. Organize your program outline in such a way that it suits the theme and makes maximum impact on the listeners. Gather all the media for your radio show. This could be audio clips, narration, promotional ads, interviews etc. You can include anything you desire in the program. As a producer, you are in control of how your program flows from one clip to the next. Arrange the clips in such a way that the program makes sense to the listeners. If the program podcast is not coordinated, users will not appreciate it and you will lose your clients.Picking SoftwareYou'll need to choose software according to the type of radio program. Here are few software solutions used for specific tasks:Shoutcast - A free internet radio software solutions for streaming audio.Helix Server Basic - Free streaming media server software which can distribute live and on-demand video and other mediaQuicktime Streaming Server - Lets you deliver live or prerecorded content in real time over the internetQuicktime Broadcaster - QuickTime Broadcaster allows just about anyone to produce a live broadcast eventPeercast - Free way to listen to radio and watch video on the InternetAndromeda - A delivery-on-demand software, it scans your MP3 files and presents them as a fully-featured streaming web siteUse software to put special effects such as 'fade-ins/fade-outs' between audio clips.Export the Final ProductWhen you are through with all this, export the final product as an mp3 file, a compressed sound file format. As you know, compressed sound files work best on the internet because large files take longer time in streaming.Upload the ShowUpload the show onto the web using your FTP client. Check the URL to which your file is uploaded to ensure the sound file is audible and is playing back on the web.You are ready with your internet radio show. Spread the word about it and get ready for the applause! You can podcast your show from the radio station of your choice over the net. A comprehensive internet radio station list would assist you in this regard.

What You Want to Know About Free Webcam Chat Services

Many younger people, recently of age or coming of age, can't actively remember a time when calling someone more than twenty miles away cost a significant amount of money, and therefore was not really a leisurely thing to engage in.Telephones, traditional parcel mail, telegraphs, and fax machines were the only instantaneous communications systems that were available, easily, for the public for many decades. But, this changed rapidly when, in the years of 1995 and 1996, massive upgrades to public computer systems and computer networking made the internet an easy to use and widely available appliance for people out there.Over night the concept of a chat room, email, or instant messenger became a household concept, just as much as the word processor or video game had been the decade prior, thanks again to the advances in computers. People embraced this technology, not only for its convenience over traditional telephones and older services, but because of the outreach it gave people ultimately.Chat rooms and video chat are something that modern young people grew up with, and take for granted, but nobody really thinks to ask the important questions about it, such as how it actually works, and how to be safe with it as well as smart with money while using it.Free webcam chat, in most peoples' eyes, is in fact something usually associated with a few mobile services and the now infamous program Skype. However, this program was not the first one to support video chat (the first widely-accepted public use of video chat outside offices was in fact Microsoft's NetMeeting), nor is it the only one out there that can serve a good purpose now.First, it's best to understand what's involved in the operation of video chat systems, so that one can see how simple it actually is, and therefore how logical it is that there are a wide array of uses for it and ways to make it work.Video chat is not really any different mechanically than a traditional chat room, with a video stream attached in sync with it. Video streams, popularized by Shoutcast, Hulu, and YouTube, is really just two sets of two objects called sockets, one on each end listening, and one on each end talking. Fragments of data are sent from one talker to another listener at a constant rate, and vice versa, which is reassembled into a video and audio movie on the other end, just like television and radio have collectively done for nearly a century now. This is why free webcam chat services can in fact be free. It's not really that difficult to design one, and even web pages can do it now, as demonstrated by many websites. These services are useful in different ways from Skype. Where Skype is more like a dedicated land line, always able to be reached when on, these website-based video chat systems are more of an on-the-fly usage type of thing.Given how easy it is to implement free webcam chat systems, it's no surprise that almost every piece of electronics, from game consoles and mobile phones, to things like PCs and cable boxes almost all offer it in some form or another now.The only real danger is in any form of communication, making sure one knows the other party well enough to share private information (which one's voice and image constitute among other things), as well as being very careful to keep children off of things like Chat Roulette, which like any web service out there, can have unsavory people showing or saying unsavory things, often not even meaning to say them to children they did not expect to randomly be on said service.Free webcam chat is a commonplace thing, and now, understanding how it works, and how uncomplicated it is to build and implement, it's no small wonder why the free services are every bit as reliable and powerful as the now-outdated expensive video chat systems that once dominated the field.

More people are looking for ways to take their music library on the go due to their busy lifestyles. The best music programs and players allow listeners to access the music from their car, portable device, or computer. If you're looking for a way to access music or audio while working or during your commute, you might consider one of the devices or applications below. Each option allows you to take your music or audiobook collection with you while on the go, without having to worry about lugging around a computer or case of CD's.iPodApple products are increasingly popular due to their increased portability. Users can load music onto their iPod, iPhone, or iPad, and take it nearly anywhere. They can also back up their music collection online using the iTunes library. This means that if they ever lose their portable device, they don't lose access to their entire collection of purchased music. Most Apple devices are also capable of streaming video, such as movies and television shows. While the iPod was originally created for listening to music while on the go, the iPhone and iPad are also capable of running multiple productivity applications, making them true multipurpose devices.SmartPhone AppsUsers who have opted for another type of smart phone, such as an Android or Blackberry, don't have to be left out in the cold. There are multiple applications available for download that allow users to listen to their music on the go. Smart phone users have the choice to either load their music collection onto the phone itself via an SD card, or to stream their music collection using an application on the phone and a 3G or Internet connection. Applications for smart phones include Google music, Pandora, ShoutCast, and more. If you decide to use one of these applications, be sure to check with your carrier regarding data charges, so that you're not caught by surprise when your wireless bill arrives. These apps work best with an unlimited data connection, especially if you're frequently streaming music.Generic MP3 PlayerUsers without a smart phone or iPod can still take their music collection on the go the old-fashioned way. Generic MP3 players are becoming less and less expensive, and are still a great way to transport a large music collection. Most MP3 players hook up to a computer via a USB or mini USB cable, and hold a large amount of music. These inexpensive players are a good option for college students, high school students, or those who work in high crime areas were an expensive phone might be stolen. What Kind of Internet Connection Do I Need to Be Able to Stream Radio on My PC?

Internet Radio is very simple in today's world. Basically you can use the same computer with the same software to stream to 1 listener or thousands of listeners. What is important is that you know how much bandwidth you need and the bit rare you want to use to stream your music.Bandwidth - Is the amount of data your internet connection can carry from one point to another in a given time period. Than means, Small bandwidth, you will get a few listeners. A big bandwidth will allow you to have more listeners.Bit rate - Simply refers to the audio quality of the stream, this is measured in computer terms in 'kbps - kilo bits per second' or 'k' for short. Listening to a station in 128k stereo would sound like CD quality, where as 24k would sound more like listening over the phone.OK BUT HOW MUCH DO I NEED? Well here a brief idea:
1 MB = 1024 kb so that means if you stream at 128 kbps
1 MB Upload connection = 8 Listeners
5 MB Upload connection = 40 Listeners
10 MB Upload connection = 80 Listeners
Remember, these are the typical upload connection speeds most people have at home. Also this will vary if you are surfing at the same time you are streaming and if you have a home phone using the internet line to make a call. These means if your use the same connection to do multiple things at the same time it could make your streaming skip and your listeners will hate that.If your plan is to have as many listeners as you can, I recommend you get the services of an Internet Radio Server (Radio Hosting) This service will give you the capacity to have multiple listeners, keeping your home internet connection with low traffic so you can surf easily and stream at the same time. This will allow you to have more listeners.Let say your connection is only 1 MB upload and you are streaming at 128 kbps, REMEMBER 1 MB is 1024 kb, that means you will only use 128 kb of the 1024. Your will use that 128 kb to stream to an Internet Radio server or hosting company and your listeners will connect to that server instead to your computer directly. Another big advantage is with this service you will have a static IP.Static IP - This is the number of your computer when you surf online. It usually looks like this xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (x are numbers). The reason you want a static IP is that unless you have one your IP will change every time you access the internet. That means if you are streaming from your computer you will have to provide to your listeners the right IP of your computer every time so they can listen your streaming. With Static IP the IP number never changes so you can create a link to your Online Radio Station with that IP and you never have to change it.That is why an Internet Radio Server Services is so convenient. Not only will it give you a Static IP it also give you a fast internet connection to handle more listeners. In a simple summary, Bit rate + Listeners = The type of Internet Connection you will need.
